Mini sessions are little snippets of what a full session may look like. They are scheduled for specific dates, usually 20 minutes long and themed with the season or holiday. They are fun, creative and offer beautiful photos at a lower price, but they aren't for everyone! If you're thinking of booking a mini session but unsure if it's the right fit for you and your family, then this may help you decide.
Punctuality is key!
I adore mini sessions, for me they are so much fun! I get to connect with new clients, be playful with the little ones and get to be creative with the set up- but they are unpredictable and fast paced! Being on time for your mini session is a must, these sessions are held in 20 minute blocks back-to-back and another family will be waiting their turn. Late arrivals will limit the little time we have, resulting in a smaller gallery overall or forfeiting their time slot all together.
If your family (like mine) are difficult to get ready and out the house on time and it's likely you'll be running late, then opt for a full session where you'll still have plenty of time to capture the best and you wont feel so flustered.
Always arrive early to your mini session to maximise your time. If younger children fall asleep while travelling, arriving early will allow them to gently wake up before jumping straight in.
Your Childs Personality
If your little one is shy, anxious around new people or simply isn't a fan of having their photo taken, then a mini session may not be for you. I do my best to engage with the kiddies so they warm up to me quickly during these sessions, but some just need a little extra time to open up. A full session will give them that breather they need to relax so that it becomes another day out with the family (and the nice lady that happens to have a camera). That said, I want my little clients to have the freedom to be themselves, so if you are happy with the outcome whether that is smiles or not, then lets get you booked in.
If your mini me's love the spot light and are used to the camera then a mini session is perfect for you!
Expectations
Mini sessions are short and sweet with 3-5 images included. There is the option to purchase extras from your mini session gallery but if you would like a more premium package that includes more images and possibly prints, then a full session is for you.
If you had specific shots in mind or a long shot list you were hoping to achieve then a full session may be better suited for you. We can capture so much in 20 minuets and I always try to honour my clients requests but longer lists may need more time. If you are happy to go with the flow, have a smaller shot list in mind or just trust your photographer to capture beautiful photos, posed or otherwise, then book yourself a mini!
Within Your Budget
Mini sessions are great if you want beautiful family photos within your budget. If you love what you have seen from your photographer but a full session is a little out of reach then booking their mini session is a great opportunity. Watch their socials for announcements or ask to be put on their mailing list. I reach out to clients and offer early bird bookings before advertising my mini sessions as they are limited for space and get booked up fast! So if you would like to hop on my mailing list to be first in line, do get in touch!
Seasonal, Themes and Weather Conditions
Mini sessions are usually seasonal and themed, for example, there may be a valentines theme, Bluebells in the Spring, a Summer picnic theme, Autumn leaves or a pumpkin patch. If you are planning on sending out personalised Christmas cards then a Christmas tree farm mini session would be great! Mini sessions are perfect for those who love props or simply want to document how their family grows and changes throughout the year. If a theme isn't for you and you'd prefer a different location or style, then a full session is better suited.
Mini sessions are set on specific days and we may have to face the unpredictable weather. If it is pouring down with rain then a back up date will be scheduled, however- grab a brolly and pop on your wellies because a little drizzle is ok! If you want the flexibility to reschedule for better weather then a full session is for you.
Mini sessions are some of my favourite sessions to do! They are fun and giggly and you'll be surprised in what we can achieve in 20 minutes!
I hope this has helped you with your decision. If you're still unsure which is the best fit for you then get in touch! I am always happy to answer any questions.
