When Should I Reach Out To My Florist?

Ideally you should contact your florist as soon as possible, or a minimum of 8 months before the wedding. Some florists do get booked up way in advance so If you have a particular florist in mind, reach out for a chat and check availability first. At your first meeting you can discuss your ideas and if it is something your florist can provide.

Thing To Communicate With Your Florist

Colour palette, Preference and Vibe

It is helpful to have a colour palette in mind, maybe you want to match or compliment the colours of your bridesmaids dresses or grooms attire. Think of your venue, is it rustic, formal, open and airy? what colours would suit the space. What vibe are you going for? more country/festival or classy/elegant? Based of your chosen colour theme we will be able to advice on a selection of flowers and flowers that may be available in that particular season. Bare in mind some flowers will cost more in different seasons.

As for your preference, are you wanting large and full arrangements, or more delicate bunches? More floral or packed with foliage?

Number of tables for centrepieces, ceremony arrangements, number of buttonholes, bouquets and corsages

To enable us to provide a more accurate quote, we would need the following information: number of bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls and page boys, flowers for the venue, for example, top table, no. of centrepieces, cake table, entrance and any where flowers would bring the place to life. Also if you would like us to provide any aisle petals or decorations, confetti, thank you bouquets and even bows for your cars,

Timings and logistics

It is best to understand the logistics as soon as possible, these are: where the bouquets and buttonholes are being delivered, where the ceremony and reception are taking place, delivery times, venue access and if any arrangements will need to be moved in-between. Access is important as we may need to set up the day before the wedding, while other arrangements can be set up on the day. Some florists offer items for hire such as vases, candelabras, flower arches etc. these would need to be collected after your wedding day.

Flowers that carry meaning

Perhaps your looking for flowers that are more sentimental to you or carry a particular meaning, such as, Lily of the Valley which symbolise purity, joy, love, sincerity and luck.

You may also want symbolic flowers to commemorate lost love ones.

Complimenting scents

When considering your bouquet arrangement also keep in mind what perfume you may wear, as the floral scents may clash or compliment you. Another thing to consider is if you have allergies such as hay fever, if so I recommend to stay away from scented flowers.

6 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR FLORIST

1. Are you available to visit the venue before the wedding? If so, do you charge a fee for this?

Before sending through a breakdown of your quote, I like to visit the venue to discuss your vision. I make sure that we are making good use of your venue, suggest other possibilities and have it clear in my mind of your requirements. There may be a small fee involved in this depending on the location of your wedding.

Other florists may also visit the venue before hand or ask for pictures of the space. If you feel as though you can communicate better what it is you are looking for by visiting the venue with your florist, then this is definitely a question to ask.

2. Do you offer packages or can things be customised?

I do have ready designed, seasonal packages that allow you the option to take the guess work out with also enabling you to budget. But that is just a starting price as there are immense possibilities for what is on offer for wedding flowers. You can always add any extras specific to your requirements and this can be discussed at the meeting.

You could also tell your florist your set budget for flowers and they should be able to advice you better on what arrangements will fit within this.

3. How would you describe your design style? Or are you able to design according to my wedding style?

I have always loved a very natural/rustic/chic style, although I have done many others including styles like minimalist/modern as well as vibrant! Personally I'm happy to arrange to your tastes and style.

Most florists have their own particular style, spend some time to research and view their galleries to get a better idea of what you like best.

4. Are you able to recreate a bouquet I like if I give you a picture?

This is always an option, I will try my utmost to create something as close to what you had in mind. Baring in mind the seasonal flowers and their availability.

5. Do you provide other décor elements? (aisle runners, candelabras, trees, copper frames, archways, etc.) Are these rental items?

Yes, we can certainly provide hired items, however these may not be guaranteed as our stock is limited and may be out on hire to others. There are also independent companies from which you can hire these items if your florist hasn't got them to offer for your date.

6. Are you able to stick around and move arrangements from ceremony to reception? If so is there an extra fee for this?

I can make myself available for moving arrangements to other venues for additional costs, however, some of the items are immovable such as archways or pillars, and unfortunately we can't guarantee flowers or items wont get damaged during transport.
